Everyone is a Winner!

We ended BP myScience Eastern Zone 2010 with a Final Challenge at Ma Daerah Turtle Sanctuary, Kg Labohan, Paka, Terengganu last weekend safely after 4 months of interactive modules and execution of climate change awareness programs in 10 schools in Pahang and Terengganu.  60 students and 20 teachers were brought to Ma Daerah Turtle Sanctuary to showcase their best practises of Green projects at their schools!

The challenge was based on the following items:

· Exhibition display - where schools showcased their learning & shared with others about BP myScience programs.

· Website posting & upload
· Presentation/Show to demonstrate Climate Change and/or what they did at school of the subject.

2nd Place     SJK (C) Pei Chai Kuantan received cash RM1,000 + trophy + goody bags

2nd Place    SK Paka III received cash RM300 + trophy + goody bags

For  the website category there was a tie at the third placing and we feel that both schools deserved to be recognized.   Congratulation to all winning schools! However to the eyes of BP, all the schools are champions and winners.  Judging the scores were no easy job for us!

All in all, we hope that our BP myScience program in 2010 have touched the little green corner of all our students and teachers, as well as our BP volunteers hearts!

Do remember that we as an individual can contribute to our Climate Change issues.  Continue to wear that 'green' cap of yours wherever you go, and remember the turtle hacthling you released to the wide open South China's Sea from Ma Daerah... the cute little baby turtles will thank you for your continuous bright green ideas! 

Sembang Sains Trip to KL

60 students and 19 teachers from Kuantan & Kerteh schools traveled hundreds of kilometres to Kuala Lumpur citty in the wee Friday morning last 9 July. Our mission was to visit Petrosains at Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC), Planetarium Negara at Taman Tasik Perdana and Pusat Sains Negara at Bukit Kiara.

The aim of this science trip is to expose students from the BP myScience program to experience scientific and environmental journey in learning the subjects interactively.

At Petrosains KLCC, after going through the exhibition journey, the students got the chance to experience Explorer Nite Camp-In program where they were entertained by a CO2 science show and experimented making their own ice cream.  Early morning programs of Energizer session and Water War Bomb game ended their fun journey at Petrosains.

We then proceeded to Planetarium Negara for an exciting space and the universe experience and ended the visit at the Pusat Sains Negara with more fun and games there.

All in all, BP hopes that the students and teachers have gain more knowlegde of how fun and interactive the science and environemental topics are!  We hope that the trip have opened your horizon in connectingyourselves to mother nature.

Calling all of our BP myScience e-zone 2010 schools!  We are in the midst of preparing our Sembang Sains Trip to Kuala Lumpur on 9 & 10 July.  Please provide us the name list of students and teachers, complete with birth certifcate or IC numbers to your state BP coordinator.  Petrosains at KLCC, Planetarium Negara and Pusat Sains Negara are waiting for our us.

10 schools all geared up!

10 schools from Kuantan & Kerteh are now geared up for BP myScience Challenge 2010.  A networking and briefing session among teachers of the ten schools and BP officers, as well as volunteers was set up this morning to launch the climate change awareness initiative driven by BP.  Three elements of BP myScience: Carbon Challenge, Sembang Sains and School Link were shared with the teachers. 

Carbon Challenge - an interative classroom session promoting carbon footprint and energy optimization; Sembang Sanis - a talk based science, math and environmental field trip and School Link - connecting BP volunteers with participating schools were briefed and discussed in details with the schools. Seed money of RM500 per school were presented to the schools to help them kick off  'green' initiatives at schools.  SK Air Putih, SK Bukit Sekilau, SJK (C) Kong Min, SJK (C) Pei Chai and Sekolah Agama Al-Irsyad Balaok were schools from Kuantan while Kerteh were represented by SK Seri Paka, SK Paka II, SK Paka III, SK Meraga Beris and SK Kerteh.

We look forward to a fruitful, green, fun and enjoyable sessions with all the teachers and students in the next three months.

E-zone schools within reach

27 May 2010 will witness BP briefing 10 schools in the east coast of BP myScience 2010 plans.  We welcome the ten schools on board our BP myScience programs.  May this journey be an enjoyable, fulfilling and benefit to Mother Nature.

Official Kick Off Meeting for BP myScience e-Zone 2010 Challenge

A kick-off meeting to discuss BP myScience 2010 for eastern zone schools was held at BP Chemicals (M) Sdn Bhd (BPCM) situated at Gebeng Industrial Estate, Kuantan in March 2010. The meeting was attended by both teams from BP PETRONAS Acetyls (BPPA) and BPCM.  Consences were made that the program this year will focus entirely to five primary schools in Kuantan and five primary schools in Kerteh.  Programs are scheduled to start beginning May till early August.

BP continues to promote climate change awareness at schools promoting energy reduction and environmentally friendly lifestyle in the east coast region.  Thank you to Ministry of Education for their continued support and being our partner in helping us create an enjoyable and fun interative sessions at schools.
